One of the strongest predictors of healthy ageing appears to be quantity of deep sleep — the stage linked to physical repair, brain clean-up, memory consolidation and recovery.
Over the last few months I’ve been trying practical ways to improve mine.
By changing a few habits I’ve increased average deep sleep from around 38 mins to 56 mins per night — still plenty to improve as target’s 65+ minutes, but heading in the right direction.
The biggest improvements so far seem to come from:
- stopping eating / fluids earlier in the evening
- more regular sleep timing
- exercise/daylight earlier in the day
- magnesium glycinate + glycine
I’m increasingly convinced that small improvements in a few key metrics can significantly improve healthy lifespan and energy as we age.
Interested to hear if anyone else has found things that genuinely improve their sleep quality ?
